Here’s a quick question we often get: “Should I share my design selections on social media?”
What is this about?
When you share your behind-the-scenes content on social media, you will get questions about your selection. A Lot. Your followers want to know about the pieces you use, the color choices, and shopping sources. This is often quite uncomfortable for designers because they get paid to make the selection, and the designs are often customized per client.
Here’s how to tackle this:
- Create a standard answer that you use. You can say things like “Thank you for asking, but we keep the design details to our clients only”.
- You can create ready-made design specifications and sell them on your website. In this case, you can say either:
- Thank you for asking, we created design specs that you can purchase on our website! Look for the design called the name you gave it
- Thank you for asking! While we don’t share the exact details of our client work, you can find similar style boards on our website
You can also add a link to your Instagram profile where you give the details of your rules.
Remember, you don’t have to share your IP with the followers on the social platforms, but you can turn this into a revenue stream. Also: it’s always good to engage in your comments, even if you need to tell then something they don’t necessarily like. This is also a great way to build trust with your future clients!
